Remembrance Day, 11th November 2023

LEST WE FORGET

A wonderful attendance of approximately 70 + turned up, in glorious Autumn sunshine, for our Remembrance Event at 11:00 hours, today, 11th November 2023, at the Memorial Plinth in Lancaster Avenue. It was great to also see some of our four-legged members of the community join in.

Revd. Brian Williams (St Radigund’s Church) and Pam Barr (Baptist Church) officiated, and wreaths were laid on behalf of the community by; our Vice-Chairperson (Keith Pilcher), Headteacher (Anthony Richards) and Children from Capel Primary School, Revd. Brian Williams for St Radigund’s Church, Pam Barr for Baptist Church, Chairperson (Sally Cook) of Village Hall Management Committee and Farmers’ Market and Audrey Goaten.

Thank you all for uniting with us for the 2 minutes silence, in honour and respect of those who fought and died for this country.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

Thanks to Matt Curtis, Kent PA Hire, for loan of equipment.

On Saturday, 23rd September 2023, at Capel-le-Ferne Village Hall, the Working Party organised a ticket evening event, with a free drink on arrival, to raise funds to help provide a fourth 4×4 evacuation vehicle to bring the wounded and civilians to safety.

Lena, one of our Ukraine visitors, welcomed everyone to the event.
Nick from K9 Rescue attended, giving a talk with slide information, on the importance and use of 4X4’s in Ukraine for rescuing animals from the front line and providing a feeding programme.
For those attending there was entertainment with singing and dancing from the Ukraine visitors with participant workshop, craft stalls, raffle, tombola, rabbit draw, silent auctions and food consisting of an abundance of “yummy” Ukrainian cakes.
A film, which offered an overview of the areas in Ukraine, was running throughout the evening.

The evening was a great success, enjoyed by all and beyond expectations!
The Team was “blown away” by the donations received from businesses and those unable to attend, the attendees of over 120 people, and especially the volunteer helpers and our Ukraine visitors.

A BIG thank you to all. To date, £3,775.53 has been banked.
